Data Resolution (DR) is a 3Par Fiber-based Managed Storage Area Network (SAN) Solution is a cost-effective and highly scalable disk-storage system, designed for hosting customers located in the Downtown Los Angeles Data Center. The SAN hardware is shared among other DR hosting customers, guaranteeing a cost-effective service without compromising the technological benefits or security.
Security is provided by a QOS capable switch which filters the traffic as it transverses the network between the customer’s servers and the Managed/Shared SAN. QOS is also utilized for rate limiting connections, at 250Mbps (read) and 250Mbps (write), to the SAN providing an equal playing field among the different customers utilizing this shared service. Customers are allocated Domains that prevent any access to other customer’s information.
Disk space allocation can be policed by a Domain Manager (DM) Software package which allows DR to work in conjunction with the customer to set thresholds. The default threshold is 75%. No additional software is required and the information can be accessed over the internet at anytime.
This website allows customer administrators to see the individual drives space used by each of the hosted servers. In the event that the customer hits the 75% of disk space used an email alert goes out to the customer. At this time, the customer may opt for additional disk space to be allocated to them, or they may spend time cleaning up the current data residing on their allocation.
By Default all of our customers are Connected to our 3Par SAN because it a highly redundant system and data security.

Customer data stored on the Managed/Shared SAN is recommended to be transformed into a snapshot. A snapshot is a representation of the customer’s data stored on the SAN at that particular time in history. The snapshot method is utilized to take advantage of non-production impacting data backups. By default, Snapshots are performed once per day (with a retention rate of one day) unless otherwise agreed upon by both the customer and DR. Snapshots will be located on the customer’s volume, and counted against the allocated volume space. Backups are done over Data Resolution private GB network to the disk vault system. DR backs up all customer data to disk storage vaults. The disk storage vaults provide fast data backup and restore performance. Those vaults are then transferred to tape storage.
DR provides weekly full data backups and daily differential data backups. DR specifies a data backup window for each device. Typically the data backup window is between 9pm and 6am PST. The disk storage vaults will perform backups during the backup window based on an efficient queuing strategy. The backup process will NOT degrade the performance of client servers while a backup is in progress. DR maintains a 14-day archive of data on the disk storage vaults included in it standard and enterprise services. The disk drives in our storage vaults are rotated once every two weeks. We maintain up to 30-days of backup data for each customer on tape. Each 3Par SAN can store multiple LUNs and up to 720 snapshots per year. Additional snapshot days can be purchased.
